AB-architects have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Europe Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2020.
This cosy, modern villa is located on the edge of the Altai mountain peaks in Russia. The design is inspired by the beauty of the surrounding nature, creating a warm, cosy and concise house for family leisure and entertaining guests.
The cold, crisp Siberian climate has influenced the colour scheme, with the interiors being decorated in calm, grey tones. AB-architects have played with an interesting juxtaposition of textures; cold and warm materials, wood and concrete, stone and metal. Light coloured accents in the furniture and décor accessories have been added to the interior, through pastel pinks, turquoise and malachite.
The villa has an area of 900 m2 and consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, boiler room and three bedrooms. There is also a billiard room and a sauna. The utility block is located in a separate house for staff, which also contains a cellar for storing wine and food, as well as garages for cars. AB-architects connected the maintenance wing to the main building with a roof-canopy and a covered gallery.
The heart of the house is a multi-level living room with a safe area with a bar in the two-light space. A spiral staircase with concrete slabs leads to the 2nd floor with a gallery, where you can get to the master and children’s bedrooms. The result is a very comfortable and relaxing home for a family holiday that fits into the wild nature of the Altai, with beautiful views that you can endlessly admire.
The design integrates very well with the wider environment. Located in a very remote place from civilisation, almost alone with nature, in Siberia, where the weather conditions are very harsh, a person can completely relax, be safe and comfortable, and enjoy the beauty of the Altai.
