Congratulations to Amy Lau Design shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Amy Lau Design have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

The East End Avenue Residence represents a thoughtfully curated interior where both surrounding views of Manhattan and the East River create the perfect framework to balance and enhance the clients’ collections of art and design in their home. The concept for the project was to create the perfect city oasis for these art collectors to showcase their vast collections while also working to emphasize and enhance the natural beauty of the space through site-specific installations that highlight the unique features of each room.

The couple has a deep passion for entertaining, so Amy Lau Design maximized the use of the light-filled kitchen, elegant dining room and outdoor patio. The designers worked closely with many artisans to design one-of-a-kind pieces like the custom bronze screen by Silas Seandel which creates a natural transition between the open dining room and living room spaces, or the Malcolm Hill moulded plaster and burlap mural which was crafted by hand on site.

The clients have a passion for collecting African art, and Amy Lau Design highlight these stunning pieces with soft watercolour hues of blues and greens throughout the home. The contrast of the earthier tones of the figures and vessels in their collection against the stunning details like the hand-glazed Franco Pecchioli Italian art-tile in the master bathroom, the plush Fort Street Studio custom living room area rugs, and the moody shades of night in the stunning painting by the late Sydney Butchkes bring dimension and warmth to the modern, clean-lined space.

The owners are also drawn to natural materials, selecting the specific agate sink vessel from Brenda Houston, and the actual live-edge walnut for the vanity by Andre Joyau with Amy. This space is ever-evolving, as these dedicated art lovers enjoy bringing new pieces into their collection, and working with Amy to harmoniously incorporate each special piece, while maintaining an inspired balance throughout their home.
