FAST M/Y open boat has been designed following a brief from a potential client, requesting an open 60 metre powerboat with a top speed of 60 knots, and was to be developed together with one of the major producers of fast powerboats.
The brief given to A. Vallicelli & Co. was composed with very few words; fast, aggressive, sleek, comfortable and unusual. The smooth lines are combined with a very reduced and compact superstructure that allows a very big cockpit area, with sunbathing sofas and dining table. A huge flying bridge with a Jacuzzi, bar and seating areas have also been designed.
The forward area of FAST M/Y can be ‘customised’ with different arrangements including a helicopter touch and go pad. In the aft, a big transom door opens onto an extended platform creating access to an enclosed beach area complete with chaises lounges. The big frontal and lateral ‘eye shaped’ windows coupled with the aft full open windows, are returning a very aggressive profile whilst at the same time a very luminous saloon inside.
Two diesels engines and a gas turbine as a booster are located within the engine room, with Kamewa water jets. The main deck is occupied by the saloon, dining room and wheelhouse, whilst the interiors are concentrated on the lower decks, with a central full beam owner stateroom (with direct access from the main deck, office, wardrobe and split her and his bathroom), one VIP cabin and 4 double guest’s cabins.
The crew quarters are placed between the owner’s cabin and engine room, returning a higher noise insulation. Five double crew cabins, the captain’s galley, laundry and crew mess can also hold a good crew for charter. A transversal tender garage is giving access to the engine room directly from the crew quarters. The designer’s favourite aspect of the FAST M/Y 62 is said to be its simple design with just a few fundamental lines to accompany the hull’s sleek profile from bow to stern. This is said to be the only 60 metre open motor yacht with flying bridge that can reach 60 knots.
