Base Interior - Living Space

Congratulations to Base Interior winner of the Residential £2.5 – 5 Million (Property by Value) Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2017

design et al are delighted to announce that Base Interior have won the Residential £2.5-5 Million (Property by Value) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.

Base Interior was asked to create a timeless, elegant example of period architecture integrated with cutting-edge technology and enhanced by contemporary finishes, furniture and superior craftsmanship. Approached by one of their repeat clients to take a look at a property that he had purchased, it had not been renovated for over 30 years and required complete reconfiguration including a new staircase in an alternate position, a new third bedroom and bathroom suite.Base Interior - Living Space

The brief was to create a unique apartment in the heart of Mayfair which was respectful of the period in which it was built whilst also being infused with luxury and bespoke elements throughout. Taking inspiration from the existing period features, specifically the top light of full height windows/doors to the reception which are echoed in the design for the interior doors, they laid a classic herringbone solid oak floor in the reception room and paired this with contemporary media wall joinery and antique brass ironmongery, the bathrooms are very luxurious and fully clad in marble with contemporary sanitary ware.

Their role was as interior architect, designer as well as to project coordinate, taking the property from concept to completion including the full design, space planning, specification, tender, project coordination and procurement. The property has been designed as a 3 bedroom en-suite duplex with a large reception and eat-in kitchen, it features Lutron lighting and a smart home system. The designers were responsible for fully furnishing and dressing the annexe.

The challenging layout of the master bedroom and kitchen gave the greatest design accomplishments and resulted in the most exciting rooms in the apartment. Where possible, local suppliers were used as the designers prefer to work with independent craftsmen as well as UK and European materials. Expert Stonemasonry, hand applied veneta plaster work, bespoke joinery by local joiners, artisan designed and bespoke decorative lighting all added to the artisan skills of this project. Base Interior remained respectful of the classic architecture and beautiful period features whilst introducing all the practical necessities of modern life – this is a beautiful home that can truly be enjoyed and lived in.
