Cochrane Design compete for the Restaurant within a Hotel award with a project from Ibiza

Cochrane Design have made their way onto the Restaurant with in a Hotel shortlist of the International Hotel & Property Awards 2013.

As one of the few listed buildings in Ibiza, Es Vive was originally built as a house in 1940. Although having undergone significant modifications over the years Es Vivé’s design roots are heavily embedded in the Art Deco era. Keen to bring a unique interior concept to the island the owners turned to Cochrane Design to undertake the complete overhaul and interior design of the hotel’s restaurant bar, now aptly named Deco.

The brief for this project was to design an interior in total opposition to the minimal, cutting-edge contemporary style typically associated with the island. Instead the redesign sees a reinjection of beautiful 1940’s glamour and refinement.

Ibiza Bianca marble inlaid with veined black marble in a bespoke deco pattern adorns the floor throughout the restaurant.

Materials such as silver leaf and antiqued mirror have been used to add subtle decadence to the interior. The chandeliers, hanging lights, mirrors and bar were all designed by Cochrane Design and imported from Italy and London. Every element down to the studded leather and marble tabletops, the polished chrome back plates and feet on the chairs and the coved ceiling with the stepped detail cornice has been carefully considered to provoke the feeling of 1940’s elegance.
