Congratulations to Alchemi Group who have been shortlisted for a Bathroom Award

design et al are delighted to announce that Alchemi Group have been shortlisted for a Bathroom Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2016

Westbourne House is an elegant Art Deco interpretation whose design incorporates both the building and locations past with the best in stylish, modern living. Created in collaboration with award-winning architects Stiff + Trevillion, the building incorporates elements of its past as the William Owen linen draper shop. Owen, a contemporary of Mr. Whiteley’s whose namesake store still stands just moments away. Design details that hearken back to fabric and textile elements run throughout the building from external faïence panels to bespoke carpets in the communal areas and bespoke marble inlay in specific bathrooms.
IDA16_AlchemiGroup_WestbourneHouse_Bathroom_ThumbnailOverall, the design brief was to incorporate Art Deco interpretations into the specification. The bathrooms of Westbourne House use some of the most striking design details of the period, combined with contemporary versions of heritage or historic pieces. The designers favourite element of the bathrooms at Westbourne House were those that incorporated Art Deco detailing. Elements such as stepped ceilings or marble, contrasting colours, and “heritage” inspired bath fittings combine to create rooms that are genuinely liveable and resident friendly, while also elegant and stylish.
ALCHEMY WH1The combination of classic and modern, Art Deco with contemporary is the key to the success of Westbourne House’s design. “Traditional” raw materials design with sharp, contemporary detailing add to the overall sense of timelessness. Marble is used to great effect in each bath and shower room, and is mixed with hand crafted ceramic tiles or a bespoke inlay floor design for a sense of unique and personal luxury.
