Representing an investment upwards of $70 million, the RTKL-designed Hyatt Regency adds a hospitality option to Tyson’s Corner Centre’s 1.4 million-sq-ft expansion, Adjacent and directly connected to the renowned shopping mall, the 20-story, 300-key hotel is designed to achieve LEED certification.

The hotel is part of the firm’s overall master plan for the development, which is also comprised of an office tower and a residential tower, all connected by an elevated, multi-use public plaza to both the adjacent mall and the newest Metro Stop. The Plaza is designed to accommodate an ice rink, outdoor movie screenings, holiday pageants, live music, farmers’ markets and other seasonal events.

Hotel guests can enjoy a restaurant and bar which open to, and provide outdoor dining on the Plaza. In addition the hotel offers 15,000 sq-ft of meeting space including a 7,500 sq-ft Ballroom. Extreme site constraints required the meeting space to be spread over 4 floors and the circulation challenges are overcome by a carefully planned combination of dedicated podium elevators and escalators. Fourth floor break out spaces have dedicated terraces overlooking the Plaza below. Other hotel amenities include an indoor pool, and a 1,600 sq-ft fitness area. Looney Associates were the commissioned interior designers on the project.
