Congratulations to Joanna Wood who have been shortlisted for Residential £1-2.5 Million (Project by Value) Award

design et al are delighted to announce that Joanna Wood have been shortlisted for Residential £1-2.5 Million (Project By Value) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2016

We created a contemporary interior as a retreat from the hurly burly of St. James’s.   The house is a luxurious pied-à-terre for an international client wanting a home from home in Central London. Lighting is important as a backdrop and creates drama with stunning custom made chandeliers, especially the 3-storey hand-blown glass and bronze statement piece from Phillips & Wood down the central stair. A bright palette of colours with bespoke furniture pieces from a wide variety of international craftsmen brings a feeling of space.

The interior architecture was the creation of the team at Joanna Wood with materials carefully selected and a hero feature being the bronze and glass staircase.   Veneers were commissioned in custom grey lacquer tones throughout the house, with important but subtle differences to each area.   Floors are premium grade oak chevron plank with limestone to the hallway and staircase.    The house is fitted with a sophisticated audio/visual installation, fully automated.   The team worked with Kaizen to produce a couture kitchen of lacquered handleless units in a subtle greige.    All fittings were sourced and made in Britain where possible.

Fabrics were selected from well-known international houses including Pierre Frey, Rubelli, Donghia and Hermes with layering and texture being key. Contemporary art was commissioned and purchased to complement the décor. Bathrooms are contemporary and luxurious with book-matched slab marble, hand selected from Turkey and Italy, fittings by Samuel Heath and a freestanding Egg bath complete the picture. The result is a harmonious and chic interior.
