Congratulations to Secret Bay who have been shortlisted for Hotel Suite Award

design et al are delighted to announce that Secret Bay have been shortlisted for the Hotel Suite Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2016.

Spread out over four acres of undulating land on rugged cliffs with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, the brief given to renowned Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas was to create four individual villas set into an enhanced natural landscape, offering individual privacy to each one. These were conceived as luxury tree-houses to complement and enhance the surrounding pristine natural environment and to allow couples to enjoy the benefits of this unique environment while reconnecting to each other and to nature.

The main accommodation is of solid green-heart construction, raised one storey above ground level, set on a sculptural concrete base to take advantage of the panoramic views and cooling sea breezes. The perimeter enclosures at the upper level can open fully to give a floating sensation without barriers and without boundaries. Each villa has a large integrated balcony which can also be closed off with voile curtains for additional privacy. At ground level is an infinity pool set in a private garden and the area under the superstructure offers shade for play and relaxation.

The design concept is quite unique and guests have responded extremely well requiring the resort to expand while maintaining the ethos of secluded privacy.

In-keeping with the need for the design to grow around its natural surroundings, no heavy equipment was used in construction – everything was done by hand.

The suites integrate into the natural landscape to the extent that trees were allowed to grow through balconies and decks.
