design et al are delighted to announce that Silk Avenue have been shortlisted for Flooring – Carpet/Rug Award in The Product Design Categories within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017
Silk Avenue created a contemporary design taking inspiration from birds and botanical influences commissioned for a client’s garden room. A key and favourite aspect of the PEROGO design was the development; maintaining recognition of the botanical subject whilst abstracting the overall rug composition to combine the mixed interpretations.
As the rug was due to be positioned in a garden room with tropical plants, the designers wanted to develop an abstract image that combined tropical plants with tropical birds. The image represents a merge of a single leaf with a Parrot’s wing thus representing the client brief. The raised elements of the design allow the image to pop. The customised colour palette modernised the typical green hues. With a base composition of 3mm pile height made from New Zealand Wool and the raised silk design was made with a 5mm pile height. Silk Avenue creative design team and their experienced weavers used the finest and best techniques to create this hand-knotted rug.
