Intimate stone and slate pavilions interconnected by a curvilinear earth wall, ponds and courtyards creating a seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor living spaces in this sensual sanctuary inspired by Japanese design and sustainability. The separate Pool Pavilion is a highlight of this project.
The aim was to design a tranquil sanctuary in the Perth hills reflecting the retired owner’s love of Japanese aesthetics, accommodate for their ageing, provide state of the art technologies and connect with their landscaping vision for the whole site.
The rammed earth pavilion was designed with teak and glass operable windows to provide natural ventilation and a connection with nature for the clients when in the pool. From eye level within the pool the clients connect visually through these earth framed openings. The pool is lined with Bisazza L’elba mosaics throughout. The green, brown and gold colour of the jewel like mosaics reflects the colours of the Australian wildlife. The pool pavilion is connected to the main bedroom via a private courtyard through a Japanese courtyard offering privacy and intimacy.
The stunning ceiling when lit along with the recessed downlights in the rammed earth walls and subtle pool lights at night. The design of the pool pavilion blurs the distinction between the inside and outside spaces and offers views of the changing seasons and a tangible connection to experience the landscape while swimming.
