design et al are delighted to announce that Designed by Woulfe have been shortlisted for Bedroom Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
This shrine to the round, spherical and curvaceous boasts a rich, sultry colour palette spiked with colour in unlikely places. The brief given to Designed by Woulfe was largely to temper the mood of the previous interiors. The overall aesthetic was almost alpine, and had an inescapable masculinity about it. It was brutalist, wooden and angular, relying heavily on clunky materials. The space needed softening, some TLC and a more considered use of colour and material.
Designed by Woulfe wanted to create a fluidity that unified the spaces in this Notting Hill project. With the use of repeated pattern and colour, the design team provided a certain connectivity between the interlocking spaces. Two mirrors that celebrate the geometry are hung low above a Mid-Century style sofa. The shape of these mirrors is ricocheted in two symmetrical lamps and a layered circular coffee table. The table sits atop a rug which not only mirrors the circularity of the space, but the tones and texture in the sofa. This curvaceous theme is continued in the feminine lines of the armchairs opposite the contemporary mirrors, and in the striking artwork above the fireplace.
There is no space left unconsidered in this exciting and vibrant property. The spaces are not distinct, so creating different zones for different purposes throughout the property was a challenge. The hallway is home to a more formal seating area, where two contemporary, voluptuous, lemon-yellow armchairs seem to tumble onto a more understated grey rug, featuring mottled, circular pattern. The overall circularity of the design scheme is foiled by the triangular silhouette of the Verdigris, glass-topped dining table. The design features a slim outline that means the stretch of space between the kitchen and the living space is unobstructed. This element of the interiors is my favourite. Not only because Designed by Woulfe are avid fans of Tom Faulkner, but because of the way the piece plays with texture, material, and shape.
Designed by Woulfe believe this project to be one of their most daring design schemes. Not only is it incredibly satisfying to breathe in the shapes and colours of the space, the design team have stated, but the functionality of the space is unequivocal. Using booth-style seating at the dining table means that the dining space can function in an unlikely setting, maximising space. Notting Hill is a notoriously stylish location in North London, and Designed by Woulfe wanted this understated, cool atmosphere for the project. The space is not grand – it is considered and has a quiet luxury about it. There are no frills. Just instantly recognisable design silhouettes perfect for any prospective, uber-cool North London clients.
