DESIGNER IN PROFILE… 5 minutes with Anita Srisakulchawla

DESIGNER IN PROFILE… 5 minutes with Anita Srisakulchawla, Principal of ASC Interior

What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms?

Design should respond to the tension among everyday culture.
We approach all our projects with rigorous research being aware of the newest trends in architecture, interior design, cultural events, economic situation, social innovation etc.

What are the key influencing elements at present?

“Thinking globally and acting locally” we started to source the project material from local supplier and to work with local artists. Using local materials instead of imported it decreases the environmental and economic cost. Interiors are part of a visual language and they have to reflect on the importance of alternative solutions especially during a period of economic crisis. Looking at our local sources it might be a strategy to go beyond it.

What sort of projects are you working on at the moment?

We have several projects in Thailand as Hotels, residential and branding projects. At the moment we are starting to have some projects abroad as in India and in Bangladesh.

A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life?

Being a designer is a non-stop profession that requires a constant improvement, and you really need to be devoted and passionate to the profession. Same applied to my personal life. My profession and daily life are related to each other. Being a mother of three kids and running a company is a full time job that require 24h non- stop. Take it easy and solve problems with an open mind is how I hold down a career and life.
