Tell us a little about your background in design:

I think I was born to design, with creativity running in my DNA. Though I have acquired my formal education as a fashion designer, I have always had a keen interest in creating enthralling spaces. In addition, having travelled extensively throughout the world as a child, I was not only exposed to the various design sensibilities but this exposure was also instrumental in my voyage into this industry. I have been designing since I was 18- and now i am 50- so practically I have 32 years of experience in the field of interior design. Each project assigned to me from the last 30 years has been a learning experience where I have learned the technicalities and explored my talent with its successful completion. I can proudly say that today I have completely integrated myself into the interior design world.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?

As the head of the design team of La Sorogeeka my design work is a progression of my thoughts, feelings and all that i believe in. I feel GOD is in the details and so my design work reflects the attention that is given to the minutest of details while designing. I believe that interior design is about complete synchronization of the space and is the art of putting all the interior elements together. The art of styling spaces with the use of the finest materials, combined with intricate craftsmanship and extreme attention to detail can be described as my signature design style.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

My inspiration can be derived from Travel, Nature, History, Music or any interesting experiences.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

I have been designing for almost three generations now and I believe there has been a vertical movement in interior design with the revival of the old using modern technology. With the Internet revolution- the influence of international trends blending with local heritage cultures can be seen in every aspect of design, whether it is fashion or interiors.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design.

The five key themes would be:

1) The first one would definitely be Pure Classic, which is always popular and never out of fashion. Classic/ Renaissance architecture and interiors continue to inspire all of us at all times.

2) The second would be Art Deco, which has really become popular in the last few months.

3) Another theme would be Contemporary Bohemian that has a tropical flavour to it. This would be designed for the people looking for an unusual and trendy look.

4) The fourth theme would be Retro. It would be mixing neon colours with tans & browns and clashing it with unusual patterns to create a unique collection.

5) The last but not the least would be the vintage theme that is Rustic yet Sophisticated. Kind of a revival of the vintage era.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes, what would it be?

While designing schemes the designer should have a controlled balance over his/her design sensibilities. Its very important to think a complete picture before putting it on paper and then making it visually possible. Its not a great idea to design everything beautiful and then go overboard while putting it together. Sometimes simple things put together with the most outstanding design pieces is what would make your scheme look visually appealing.

How important are The International Design and Architecture Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?

In my opinion, the process of designing and creating new products gives me the highest level of creative satisfaction as a designer. But, definitely the International Design & Architecture Awards is something I look forward to immensely as it is a validation from the industry for ones work; and every designer aspires for it as it lends a prestigious platform to showcase their works and achievements to be recognized globally.
