Tell us a little about your background in design:
In the very early years in my career, I started my journey in design, using the traditional methods, sketching and line drawing by hand for many years until I taught myself CAD, adapting my skills to produce 3D models, photorealistic renders and advanced to printing 3D prototypes of my designs, including production drawings for manufacturers and started to offer my clients a full turnkey solution.
Throughout my 25-year career within the industry, I have been perfecting my craft and precision as a master carpenter, interior and exterior architectural designer and project manager. Specialising in unique timeless interior architecture, creating timeless luxury interiors and furniture. I have always used my creativity, vision and passion whilst designing some of the most outstanding projects in the residential sector throughout the UK.
How would you describe your personal design style?
With a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills I have adapted to designing any style from traditional to contemporary to fulfil my clients brief. However, my personal design style is ‘a style with a difference’ that is entirely unique. Traditional with a modern twist, incorporating the finer details of traditional with elegant materials creating timeless interiors.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
Somebody asked the question, ‘who dreamt this?’ As they were referring to my design in a luxury residence, my answer to this was ‘me!’ So, I get a lot of inspiration from my dreams, visions come to me which I archive until I am ready to incorporate it within my designs. ‘Strange but true!’ I suppose the initial inspiration comes from the most talented artisans in the world, from the past to present who have created the most iconic architectural structures.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
In a general sense, I feel that design is having resurgence in style and a lot of people are looking to put more character features in to their homes, however, there are limited number of artisans in the industry, therefore a shortage of talent.
I feel living spaces are becoming more open plan and used for multiple functions to suit their lifestyle.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.
- Layout
- Lifestyle & function
- Style & Colour Palette
- Energy efficiency
- Technology
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
One piece of advice when it comes to design schemes is to respect the integrity of the building and build it into the design of the interior and be consistent throughout the home.
