Tell us a little about your background
The professional collaboration between the designer Diego Bassetti and the architect Andrea Panzieri started in 2005, when they met each other working for the architecture and design Studio RA.RI. of Bruno Rainaldi, a long time collaborator and designer of Terzani (Orten’zia, Magdalena, Anastacia, Untitled, etc), who sadly passed away in 2011. Immediately a splendid human and professional understanding between the two was born, thanks to their common feeling towards the reality which surrounds them.

Over the years, Bassetti and Panzieri, thanks to their affinity arisen from the close collaboration with Rainaldi, have had the opportunity to be totally involved and to confront themselves with all aspects concerning the management of design and architecture projects. In 2010 they decided to open their own design studio: “Studio14”. In 2013 Terzani decided the time had come for Studio14 to prove they could stand on their own two feet after years of working for Bruno, the results were groundbreaking as their answer was the Volver.

How would you describe your own personal style?
We try and adapt our style to where our customer wants to go and model it according to requirements.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Inspiration can come to us in many ways from everything around us, material or immaterial. Observing a detail and turning into an idea with many uses and shades and functions allows us to give each project a personal identity and vision.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design is definitely moving in the direction of innovation and new ideas. We are exploring new materials and new processes in manufacturing. As designers, we are becoming more responsible to understand the long-term effects to the environment and the role of design and its sustainability for the future. I feel that design is also becoming more personal again with design demanding more bespoke solutions than mass production

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2014 and beyond
Attention to Nature and all that surrounds us, flexibility, creativity and attention to new trends.
Experimentation with a particular vocation to new materials and finishes.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to development projects, what would it be?
Our personal advice is to design with creativity from your instinct and never over think the design.

How important are The International Design and Architecture Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?
They are extremely important and being recognised by your peers and designers internationally. The awards allows companies and designers to showcase their work and it opens new opportunities to connect with other designers.

What projects are you currently working on?
We are designing a chair for a well-known Italian manufacturer but we cannot mention at present.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Our objective is to be better known internationally.
