W Dubai – The Palm with its 350 guest rooms and suites with uninterrupted views and dreamy amenities redefines city getaways. Lying on an island yet on the cusp of a city thriving with innovation & luxurious excesses, it is the ultimate escape resort fringed with city benefits. A modern utopia designer by dwp for international trendsetters and the most discerning locals.

Guests are invited into surprising, sensory environments where amplified entertainment, vibrant lounges, modern guestrooms and innovative design creates a luxury lifestyle destination. Whilst unmistakably a W hotel, W Dubai – The Palm has its own personality that is brought to life by its Arabian International destination, seamlessly mixing cutting-edge design with local influences. Embracing the contrast of local culture & international expectations, the hotel perfectly fuses Arabian aesthetics & intercontinental style with the W philosophy: “whatever / whenever”, creating a place to play or work by day or to mix and mingle in high-energy spaces by night.

The overarching concept for the lobby was transformation by light. The space was required to offer daylight without jeopardising privacy and enable controlled lighting to guest corridors whilst creating both intimate hideaways and dynamic spaces in which to see and be seen. With a strong design narrative back to the original concept of organic versus geometric the lobby reflects geometric forms and curvilinear shapes of the built and natural environment. Floors that mimic whimsical clouds that fade into a reflective water surround. Shapes and patterns that transform like a mirage as one looks towards the horizon.

By day or by night, the lobby offers the guest a completely different experience. The bold 30-metre visual soundwave light installation constructed of 1213 glass pieces adjusts the energy from day to night and is almost like the heartbeat of the whole hotel. The spirit of W is imbued into the hotel’s very DNA with the shape of sound even inspiring the lighting installation. The shape is derived from the layout of the graphic record created by pronouncing the consonant W. The spectacular feature beats to the music in the neighbouring W Lounge and offers a whole rainbow of colour combinations providing a splendour of sight and sound.
