What direction do you feel hospitality design is moving towards in general terms?
More towards personal and individual preferences… There seems to be less mass market demand, and more selective choices in all sectors, to create stronger individual character and appeal of a building or space.
What projects are you currently working on?
A number of rooftop bars and restaurants, as well as hi-end residences and hotels.
A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life?
In this industry, there’s a fine line between the two, but if you are passionate about what you do, know where and who you are, it’s not that difficult.
Name 5 key essentials for the next twelve months
I would sum it up in five words: personal, passionate, innovative, original and unique.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Always begin with a clean, blank page and a fresh clear mind!
How important are The International Hotel and Property Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?
Clients and the industry value the recognition of such awards, which is important for businesses to thrive, and it is a thrill to have your work singled out by your peers. Having said that, awards do not affect the design process for the designer, as we input our best efforts into each and every project. Many great design projects will never win awards, as they may never be submitted. Not having obtained an award for a designer does not devalue the creativity of the work.
How do you relax?
I simply love to shop and sleep.
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
To be even more creative and do something amazing in the world. Receiving one or two more design awards would be a plus!!
