The InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort consist of Overwater Villas and Residences overlooking the beach and lagoons. There’s an option to choose a soothing lagoon or a dramatic ocean view with a perfect vantage point from your private terrace for a spectacular sunrise or sunset. Each Villa or Residence have been infused with distinct Maldivian design; featuring several separate bedrooms, a lounge with an en suite complemented by a spacious terrace overlooking the ocean or lagoon with a private pool. While the design should be aesthetically pleasing adhering to the ‘travellers’ concept, it should also be operationally environmentally friendly and promote stainability.

The Retreat, an exclusive, adult-only enclave of the resort is a great venue from morning till the sunset with an oversize hammock at the reception – said to be “the largest in Maldives”. The Collective has been described as the main hub of the resort, where the entertainment is. The Collective was also described as “the place to have a break from the sand and the sun”. As mentioned, the design concept is that of a traveller and the fluidity was to embrace the changing environment. Being in Maldives, the design celebrates the beautiful environment and naturally integrates into the wider environment. The furnishing and layout on the property can be moved around to suit the guest preference.

Most importantly, stainability is the forefront of the design, this allows amenities and furniture to be environmentally friendly. The ‘Green Engage’ which are the sustainable efforts are fully integrated as part of the maintenance of the design, so it is both beautiful and fully feasible to sustain.
