design et al are delighted to announce that Ioanna Lennox Interiors has been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Asia Pacific Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
This prized penthouse apartment located in Quay West Towers boasts uninterrupted panoramic views over Sydney Harbour and Opera House. Ioanna Lennox Interiors were engaged to modernise and revitalise this single-level 3-bedroom apartment whose décor was stuck in a bygone beige era. The client was an English gentleman, who travels extensively and had recently relocated to Australia. With a great appreciation of the finer things in life, his brief was to make it a place he can call home, be easy to live in and above all, let the views take centre stage.
Despite its ‘penthouse’ persona, the apartment had low ceilings, the designers sought to maximise the height and light by keeping the walls white and chose a palette of greys, charcoals and navies as the soft furnishings scheme. Ioanna Lennox Interiors borrowed cues from the harbour on a cloudy day and let that colour palette of moody greys and dusty blues spill into the décor. A more literal translation of this was taken in the master bedroom where the wispy wind-blown clouds found their way on the feature wall and lamp shades in the Formasetti Novolette wallpaper.
Art played a big part in the overall aesthetic and having left most of his collection overseas, the client was happy to start again. Ioanna Lennox Interiors helped him source and curate a new collection of contemporary art that paid tribute to his new country, its burnt outback and idyllic coastline. In fact, it was the Australian outback at dusk, as reflected in Dana Dion’s painting, that influenced the design direction of the guest bedroom. This became a soft muted palette of dusty pinks, greys and aubergine, with the walls wrapped in a seagrass wallpaper to feel like a soft cocoon.
The aim with every project Ioanna Lennox Interiors undertake is to create beautiful, layered and evocative residential interiors, which not only represents their clients’ lifestyle and aspirations, but showcase the design studio’s passion for exceptional quality, fine craftsmanship and considered interior design. Ioanna believes this project is a great representation of all of that and a great example that apartments can function just as well as houses and feel just as expansive, especially when perched 36 stories high above the Sydney skyline.
