design et al are delighted to announce that KLID – Kris Lin International Design have been shortlisted for Residential £1-2.5 Million (Project by Value) Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
This project is located in Hangzhou, which is famous for its great natural views, the interiors of this property aim to bring the natural elements into the inner space. The most special feature of the villa is that it has two floors underground as well as four floors aboveground. Generally, the impression of a basement is associated with darkness, moist, insufficient light, and bad air circulation. To break the intrinsic impression towards basements, Kris Lin International Design have boldly re-designed the space and carried out an overall reconstruction without changing the main structure. All the walls and floors were removed whilst the original building structure was retained.
Some floors have been re-opened in the atrium, so that the upper space and lower space can echo with each other. Through this way, Kris Lin International Design have added a bridge, corridor, etc. in the atrium, so that people can interact and communicate without distance. The first floor serves as the living room and dining room; the second floor has three suites and one bedroom; the third floor is the master bedroom; the fourth floor is the attic. Additionally, the B2 floor is equipped with a spa zone, a tea room, a gym, and a recreation area. The pool and garden area are added to the indoor space, granting the entire floor space with oriental cultural elements.
A distinct feature of the project is the B1 floor, in which Kris Lin International Design have boldly designed a luxurious guest room. The large area of glass increases the entry of natural light into the room, making the basement brighter. To grant the basement space with life and vitality, Kris Lin International Design have determined three directions for this design: the first direction is the definition of permeability; in order to let the users have a different feeling towards the space usage, Kris Lin adopted large areas of open window, so that people can feel the circulation and flow of air inside the rooms. The second direction is light; the height of the atrium is used to define space. The introduction of light can create a broad field of vision, inviting users to a holiday-like environment. The third direction is natural elements, by introducing dry landscape and the layout of plants, a feeling of unique space is created through alternating layers.
