Congratulations to Laura Stein Interiors shortlisted for Bedroom Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Laura Stein Interiors have been shortlisted for Bedroom Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

Located in a lovely neighbourhood in Toronto, the owners purchased this home for its location and size, but they knew something was missing. There was little architectural detail, and not much interest in any of the rooms. Most of their existing furniture was old and worn out, and just wouldn’t do for their new, upgraded lifestyle. With the goal of adding some soul and character into their home, they hired Laura Stein Interiors to bring the home to life and make it truly comfortable for their family.

The first priority was to focus on the bedrooms, primarily the principal bedroom. With drab carpet, empty walls, and dated furniture, an overhaul was in order. The owners wanted a room that was contemporary and updated, but still had a classic feel. They had one antique chest of drawers that had been in the family that they wanted to keep, but they also wanted to add something edgy and unexpected. And of course, the room had to feel cosy and comfortable.

To give the room a sense of stature and elegance Laura Stein Interiors added panel moulding throughout. Next, the paint colour was updated to a soft creamy white, and luxurious carpet was layered in. The custom bench at the end of the bed inspired the colour palette of grey, cream, and dusty lavender, offset by hints of gold. The lines of the bench are clean but classic and the fabric gives a nod towards contemporary. The bubble chandelier, seemingly floating above, punctuates the space. The bed and night tables were custom made for the room, as well as the chaise in the opposite corner. The soft linen drapery, anchored by the homeowner’s chest of drawers, keeps the room feeling comfortable and not too formal. The perfect place for busy parents to relax at the end of the day.

Laura Stein Interiors’ favourite part of the project is the reading nook with the custom chaise and glass and brass bell table. The view to the garden outside is spectacular, and the sunlight filters in through the drapery beautifully. The lines of the chaise are so elegant, and the table gives the vignette a perfect punch. Throughout the rest of the home there is also a play between contemporary and traditional styling, with a focus on comfortable yet elegant family living. Room by room this house is being brought to life by adding architectural details, layering in luxurious textures and finishes, and giving a personality to each space.
