design et al are delighted to announce that LW Design Group have been shortlisted for Restaurant – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2018.
Located in the Hyatt Regency in Deira, Al Dawaar, which originally opened in 1981, is surrounded by some of the oldest areas of the UAE. It is to this day, the only rotating restaurant in Dubai and provides stunning 360-degree views, making it the ideal venue to get a glimpse into unseen aspects of Deira, like the ports, the old market streets, and the Creek as well as views of the new modern metropolis and iconic Burj Khalifa in the distance. The brief given to LW Design was to update the restaurant and create a fresh, modern Colonial inspired seafood buffet restaurant that enhanced the unique experience of a rotating restaurant without overwhelming the space. Al Dawaar functions in the day and at night and the design had to create a laid-back, yet sophisticated venue which was to work seamlessly from one into the other.
The restaurant is on two levels with the areas by the windows a few steps down to allow every table uninterrupted views. The core part of the restaurant that does not move incorporates the lift lobby, reception and washrooms, and then spreads out into the live cooking stations, extensive buffet displays and a cosy cocktail bar area. The rotating section houses the bulk of the dining areas, as well as another bar with an attached lounge allowing you to enjoy handcrafted cocktails while enjoying the spectacular panoramic views. The intent was to provide in house guests an exciting new experience as well as create a new destination restaurant in the hotel to attract new clientele from Dubai and beyond.
The double levelled restaurants provide uninterrupted views for all clients – whether you are in the lower restaurant area or the elevated bar lounge. The freshness of the colour palette carries very well from a daytime venue to a night time one. Al Dawaar is the crowning glory of the Hyatt Regency hotel and the new design captures the tropical warmth of the venue but in a fresh exciting way. It creates an exclusive experience in a buffet restaurant, making it an ideal place for either Friday Brunches or for more intimate special occasions.
