Congratulations to M. Frederick Design shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that M. Frederick Design have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

This project involved a 50-acre equestrian estate compound with main residence, caretaker’s cottage, 12-stall horse barn, riding rings and paddocks located in Ocala, Florida. The design brief for M. Frederick Design was a new, complete equestrian compound in the northern Florida horse country for a new young family and their equestrian enterprises. The brief included the architectural design of the main barn and residence structures, as well as the complete interiors and landscape schemes.

The barn was to be a fully functioning 12-stall facility with groom’s quarters upstairs, but needed to also reflect a certain sophistication and elegance as it was also designed to be used for select parties and events throughout the year. The design element of having the home look as if it had elements of a previous industrial structure helps it merge into the more regional aesthetic language of the area and ties nicely into the functional, working nature of the estate. The main house was designed primarily as a first floor living arrangement, with additional guest quarters on the second floor. The house was designed to look as if it had been built around an older manufacturing structure that could have existed on the property from a previous, more industrial period in the regions history.

The grand scale of the home allowed M. Frederick Design to play with proportion and light in ways that designers and architects do not often have the luxury to do. All of the furnishings were designed in M. Frederick Design’s office and manufactured to their own specifications. The design team believe that this bespoke attention always imparts a custom feel to a project that you can never achieve with catalogued items, giving the residence a more unique luxury setting.
