Martha's Vineyard Interior Design

Congratulations to Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design shortlisted for Bedroom Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design have been shortlisted for Bedroom Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

The master bedroom suite is the only space on the second floor of this 11,000 sq. ft. home. Consistent with the rest of the home, the overall design is a beautiful balance of understated luxury and a modern agrarian aesthetic. The expansive views of the Vineyard Sound and the beach dunes of Menemsha from the bed and sleeping porch were the source of inspiration for the materials palette. The sleeping porch becomes an extension of the master bedroom when the NanaWall is fully opened welcoming the salt air and ocean breezes into the master suite.

The walls, ceiling and trusses were painted a warm white acting as a soft canvas framing the views. Reintroducing the grey stained western red cedar (predominantly used throughout the first floor) on the horizontal boards which clad the “core” of the master suite. The core encompasses the dressing area, walk-in closet, and water closet also creates two defined pathways leading to the master bathroom. The western red cedar became the backdrop for the large double vanity and dressing table. To reflect the client’s lifestyle and personal style, the concept was to create a design that evoked a laid-back elegance. Light weight slipcovers, Belgium linen upholstery, weathered finishes, hand woven shades, natural fibre rugs, and light tumbled limestone.

The thoughtful selection and placement of materials throughout this home was pivotal in creating the successful cohesion from one room to the next. Each space has its own identity, but the same design influences can be seen yet not appear repetitive. The views and surrounding property inspired the colour and materials palette. Cedar and field stone indigenous to the island were incorporated into many architectural details while the expansive glass doors and windows allowed the amazing water views and beach dunes to remain a focal point.
