Award Winning Designer Maurizio Pellizzoni Discusses Design Directions and Influences…

Maurizio Pelizzoni is a London based designer and winner in the 2012 International Design & Architecture Awards. Next month his award-winning project will be featured in the highly acclaimed ‘Design Issue’. For today however we have taken time to learn a little more about the man behind the projects.

What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms?

Good quality mixed with bespoke pieces, antiques and family memories.

What are the key influencing elements at present? My client’s requirements but also the locations of the project personally influence me.

What sort of projects are you working on at the moment? We are about to finish a stunning loft in Shoreditch, very contemporary but also with a very fresh and clean style. The next one in line is a big family home in Godalming, which should be completed at the end of the summer. It is so exiting to work on final touches and see the all project coming together. We are also working on another big project out of London and a family flat in Chelsea.

A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life? I really love design and what I do for living so for me my career is my life, I am also very lucky to have a partner and friends sharing my passion, this make things very easy for sure!

Name the key essentials for 2012 and beyond

Comfort and practicality.

Attentions to details for lasting designs.

Lighting design

Large dining area for entertaining

Quality finishing

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

Pay attention to details from the beginning to the end, but also a good working relationship with clients and contractors.

How important do you feel Design Awards are as recognition of designers talents and achievements?I think they are fundamental as they are the celebration of good and innovative design, without design awards it would be impossible for new designers to get recognition and break into the industry.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months? The last few years have been amazing in every single way, something that started as a dream became and change my life. In the next twelve months I am planning to expand and get a new office in Chelsea.
