Congratulations to Michele Hilton Design shortlisted for Living Space – Europe Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2017

design et al are delighted to announce that Michele Hilton Design have been shortlisted for Living Space – Europe Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.

This project involved the interior design for listed 5-bedroom Georgian townhouse, featuring the adaptation of a traditional drawing room into a combined luxury living-dining area suited for a modern family’s lifestyle. Michele Hilton Design was approached by a relocated client seeking to furnish a glorious period rental property stylishly and rapidly to accommodate her family of five; desiring distinct areas for living, entertaining, lounging, and study on the ground floor. The unfurnished five-story listed Georgian townhouse had already been lovingly restored, limiting our ability to make more than cosmetic enhancements to the structure. Michele Hilton Design’s scheme focused on clever planning and coordinating high-impact furnishings for the living area.
Michele Hilton DesignFirstly, Michele Hilton adapted the former drawing room into a combined living/dining room, ideal for use during daytime and meals with family, as well as for formal entertaining. An understated palette of pearl greys accented with slate blues, taupes, antiqued brass and lacquered Macassar exude a warming palette by day to balance the low natural light levels; or a glamorous space exuding a warm golden glow at night. Additionally, Michele Hilton Design adapted the former dining room into a TV/breakfast room; and transformed the Orangery into a sunny private study for the client. On upper floors, children’s bedrooms were designed with classic furnishings in similar elegant colours, with the master bedroom featuring more indulgent textiles, and ultra-wide upholstered headboard and exquisite storage units in lacquered wood.
Michele Hilton DesignThe result was a sophisticated, “continental glossy contemporary” style achieved within restrained budget, re-arranging the living spaces and effectively adapting a heritage property interior to suit the needs of a young, modern family; and thereby exceeding the client’s expectations. For this brief, the client was unsure of the preferred style approach – eventually established as “gloss, glamour and practical contemporary” within a set budget – Michele Hilton Design were able to explore the same living space in a range of styles e.g. Nantucket Chic or Zen Modern, making our unique design solution to the space malleable enough to translate for future projects with similar spatial parameters.
