NBB Design have been shortlisted for Living Space – Europe Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020.
Given the privileged location of the property in front of Lake Geneva facing the Alps, the concept idea for NBB Design & Open Space Architecture Ltd was to develop and extend the living areas as much as possible in order to enjoy the view and bring the outdoor landscape indoors.
The internal layout was defined by dividing the private and public spaces, separating the floors by the different functions and areas: the lower ground floor accommodates three ensuite bedrooms, the gym and golf simulator room, a playroom for the kids and the laundry and technical area.
Due to the geomorphology of the plot, the access to the villa is through the ground floor and the idea was to create a surprise effect via the big glazed panels opening to the landscape. The whole floor is an open plan area in which different living and seating spaces were conceived. A single wall separates the living from the dining areas, and it becomes a feature where the art collection of the client can be exhibited. The kitchen and breakfast area can be closed with sliding panels hiding it when formal dinners are taking place.
The top floor has been altered, removing the existing dormer small windows and replacing them with French windows opening to a balcony to enjoy the view from the Master Bedroom. This floor also accommodates walk in wardrobes, and the TV and Guest Rooms. The latter are divided by a partition wall that does not reach the ceiling, allowing the flow from one space to the other at the time that grants privacy.
The interiors concept was a result of the interpretation of the client’s profile and personality with NBB Design values, mixing contemporary furniture items with a touch of classic in the cornices and joinery details. The client’s art collection has been taken into consideration mixing it in each the living space of the house. The clients were relocating from the Middle East so NBB Design wanted to keep a bit of the warm atmosphere and make sure the lighting was in line with this.
