design et al are delighted to announce that Oakeve Interior Architect Design Practice have been shortlisted for Kitchen Design Over £100,000 Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

The design brief for Heathcote was to create a truly luxurious home, which provides an ‘aspirational lifestyle’ choice to any discerning purchaser. These aspirations were taken to embody luxury and opulence, well-being and comfort, safety and security and technologically advanced, intelligent design. Specifically, within the kitchen design, the connectivity of spaces was key to the design brief. As the kitchen/breakfast area/family room was a vast area, totalling over 1,220 sq. ft., the large, open-plan living space had to provide a seamless flow between these specific areas enabling social dining, entertaining and modern living, whilst also delivering future homeowners with an ergonomic, practical cooking space with high-performance appliances of uncompromising quality.

A bespoke, climate-controlled wine room was incorporated within this space to provide the correct temperature and humidity to age and improve the stored wine, but also to enhance the aesthetic of the home and showcase the new owner’s wine collection, whilst providing an additional entertaining area to host intimate wine tastings. The developer client requested that Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, easily identifiable by their iconic and unique design by brand-aware clientele, were included within the design for their unsurpassable superiority in food refrigeration, preparation and cuisine. A holistic, comprehensive interior design scheme, utilising sumptuous, on-trend fabrics and a complementary colour palette provided design continuity and a seamless flow throughout the living space.

This show home had to be comfortable and welcoming and technologically advanced, therefore innovative technologies were utilised such as smart home technology and home automation solutions to assist the homeowners to manage their home more efficiently and effectively. A Control4 Multi-Room Audio System, a full Home Cinema System and air conditioning was installed within the family room to maximise flexibility and to promote the wellbeing of the potential purchaser. The Home Cinema system was integrated into the Lutron lighting system, so that when the cinema room, off the kitchen, was in use the lights would dim accordingly and could be controlled by either iPhone, iPad, or other tablet/smartphone devices. CAT6 cabling was also provided to the kitchen and utility appliances for ‘future proofing’ of intelligent appliances.

In addition, leveraging natural light was of key importance so that the kitchen/breakfast area/family room was a bright, welcoming and inviting space. Bi-folding doors, large windows and two ‘starlit’ roof lanterns were specified for the family room to capitalise upon the natural light that streams into the south-facing property. Bespoke furniture and cabinetry was designed specifically for the Heathcote, ensuring design continuity throughout the property, which when used in conjunction with a complementary colour palette, resulted in a holistic, comprehensive, and thoughtful scheme. Designed with intelligent room flow that maximised the available natural light and dressed with on-trend, tactile fabrics and finishes, Heathcote engendered comfort and maximised owner well-being.
