Priestmangoode are the latest designers to reach the shortlist for the International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2013. Their cabin interior scheme for Brazil’s national air carrier TAM Airlines has been shortlisted for the First Class Cabin Award.

The concept for the contemporary first class cabin is ‘Home Away from Home’, bringing all the comforts of home onboard the aircraft.

Seats are designed as beautiful pieces of free-standing furniture. Materials are soft and luxurious, moving away from hard finishes and offering a cabin more akin to high-end contemporary interior design. The two central seats have a feature sofa that replaces standard footstools, offering a relaxed and comfortable social setting for passengers travelling together.

As Luke Hawes, director at Priestmangoode, explains: “Our work for TAM is crucial to their brand development, giving them the customer experience they need as they move up to become a major international carrier.

“The designs, which are being rolled out across their entire fleet, will present them as an important international player and give them the tools they need to compete with the world’s other major international carriers.”

In 2009, TAM hired Priestmangoode to redesign the entire onboard experience with the aim to put the airline on the map of major international carriers. The re-design included cabin architecture, seats, galleys and lavatories, in-flight amenities as well as the graphic user interface for the IFE system.
