design et al are delighted to announce that Rachel Winham Interior Design has been shortlisted for the Bespoke Cabinetry Award in The Product Design Categories within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017
The recently launched Rachel Winham showroom features a stunning wall to wall, floor to ceiling bespoke joinery unit, showcasing the best in a timeless design concept as well as elegant and considered detailing. The brief was to create an exceptional bespoke joinery feature, which could easily be viewed from the street to entice clientele to enter the showroom. The concept alluded lightly to the Brutalism movement, which considers beauty through its acquirement of rough, aged textures and the contrasting of different materials.
The use of a smooth, honed timber as the main body of the unit has been contrasted beautifully with moveable timber up-stand shelving, generously coated in a rigidly textured bronze liquid metal finish. The subtle lighting embedded within the shelving of the joinery adds a gentle hint of understated glamour, along with the perfectly polished antique mirrored backdrop. Ultimately the design was formulated to showcase the high-end bespoke service which Rachel Winham Interior Design provides, where the main focus is on creating unique pieces, be it furniture or joinery, with uncompromising detailing whilst ensuring functionality.
The interchangeable elements within the joinery allows for a fresh and diverse perspective during regular intervals which will appeal to many different clientele. The wallpaper will be changed seasonally to adhere synonymously with new trends and the moveable liquid metal upstands can be modified to exhibit a new and revitalised overall appearance to the unit. The high level of craftsmanship reflected in the bespoke joinery creates a perfectly balanced synergy between luxury and functionality, which is reflected in the seamless storage acquired within the unit as well as the perfectly integrated television and fireplace, which encourages a coherent and distinct finished design. The carefully chosen antique mirror, which sits behind the serene and softly grained grey timber, perfectly enhances the abundance of natural light that envelopes the showroom, creating a warm and inviting ambiance, whilst reflecting the lush and leafy surroundings of Hampstead. A team of highly-skilled artisans were bought in to realise Rachel’s vision and design for this unique and exclusive piece of joinery. As always with this project, and with all her previous projects, Rachel maintains the notion that all decisions made from conception through to completion have been meticulous in creating a joinery which is both relaxed and functional without compromising on luxury.
