design et al are delighted to announce that Radyca Inc. have been shortlisted for the Interior Design – Power Yacht Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2019.
The owner of Laurentia Yacht hired Miami-based design firm Radyca inc. to redesign the yacht. The brief was to create a clean and simple, yet sophisticated interior that is relaxing and liveable as well.
The yacht had a contemporary motif and good bones to begin with, but was not entirely to the owner’s liking, since there were more finishes, patterns and accents than suited his taste. In order to tone it down, the brief was to simplify as much as possible whilst creating a warm, relaxed but ultimately sophisticated atmosphere. The light oak panelling that already existed was preserved, but a new scheme of finishes and colours was created to meet this owner’s desire. The original light flooring with several patterns was replaced by straight laid dark Wenge wood, which can be found throughout the boat, a striking contrast to the light bulkheads and ceilings.
The main salon and dining areas were altered completely, the furniture laid out in a less formal arrangement to represent the yacht’s use for relaxation and entertaining. The sofas found here are low and deep, inviting guests for a comfortable seat with mixed leathers and linens in a variance of tones that create a fresh and elegant feel. The space is opened up by the use of bronzed mirrors, adding a subtly reflective quality. The foyer is a great example of the extent of changes made – the floors, ceilings and stairs have been completely refurbished. The existing space makes use of Wenge flooring with stainless steel and lighting details to create a clean canvas for the custom-designed copper light fixture that serves as an interesting focal point.
The sun deck saw a completely new layout, with the Jacuzzi rotated in order to allow for more sun pads all around it, and to provide more privacy. More sun pads also created extra space for storage, which was sought out at every turn. Two large buffet tables on either side of the sun deck were added, each topped with granite and fronted by high-gloss lacquer – these store the China and glassware to be used on this deck. The existing wood-topped bar was replaced with granite and paired with incredibly beautiful carbon fibre and stainless bar stools which are a masterpiece. Laurentia is designed to change seamlessly from entertaining day to night and be attractive in any setting.
A key feature of Laurentia is the outdoor cinema. Radyca Inc. redesigned and extended the seating area on the aft deck and inserted a retractable high-end definition projector and screen into the ceiling, right above the sliding doors leading into the main salon. The screen is dual sided, allowing the guests to enjoy a movie or music videos from the salon and the aft deck at the same time.
