Red House, Cheshire by Design by UBER

Design by UBER have been shortlisted for  Residential £2.5-5 Million (Property Value) Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2020.

This distinctive property which boasts an exceptionally imposing façade was recently purchased by the client and was in need of extensive modernisation. Design by UBER were commissioned to undertake a complete renovation and refurbishment of every internal aspect of the house. The property boasts numerous features and internal level changes with a vast array of accommodation laid across three floors.

The requirement was for a modern and stylish home to cater for both family living and socialising with friends. Whilst design schemes were to be practical and informal, every element was to be underpinned with a sub-text of glamour. Every finish throughout the house to be of the highest standard. With a property such as this, it was crucial for Design by Uber to ensure a design scheme that offers a seamless and harmonious journey from one space to the next. Carefully crafted skirtings and architraves, elegant three panel ebonised internal doors and bespoke cabinetry throughout the house help to ensure a boutique and coherent feel. An additional key element of the brief was to create leisure and entertainment facilities that bestow an exemplary sensory experience.

One of the most impactful transformations was within the leisure space. Dominated by the pool this area was initially very functional and rather reminiscent of a municipal pool. The vision was to craft a space that offered a tranquil and somewhat decadent escape from everyday life. To that end, there is a dramatic shift in tone immediately upon entering the leisure complex. Rich textured and smooth polished finishes are intended to heighten the senses, whilst ambient mood lighting is used to slow the pace.

Design by UBER took a pragmatic approach to the space planning, maintaining many of the internal features. However, in key areas the designers removed some of the internal walls to create open plan sociable spaces – most notably between the kitchen and the new dining room (repurposing the former as a new formal sitting room). Overall, Design by UBER were mindful of maintaining the unique individuality of the property. To that end they felt that retaining and further embracing the level changes throughout the home imbues a heightened sense of drama and intrigue.
