Congratulations to Rigby & Rigby winner of the Residential £10 Million Plus (Property by Value) in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2017

design et al are delighted to announce that Rigby & Rigby have won the Residential £10 Million Plus (Property by Value) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017

A superb 3,015 sq. ft lateral apartment, situated in the heart of prime Mayfair. The apartment offers majestic volume, sensitively complimented by the interior design talents of Rigby and Rigby’s in-house interiors team. The design brief for Rigby & Rigby was to create an elegant yet functional super-prime apartment, utilising the superb lateral configuration of the existing footprint and maximising the internal vista’s between principal living areas. Working closely with the highest quality craftsman, suppliers and installers Rigby & Rigby worked tirelessly to ensure unparalleled attention to detail and an architectural quality befitting of its location within the heart of Mayfair.

The existing apartment offered little clarity in terms of spatial relationship and circulation between principal areas; Rigby & Rigby were therefore tasked with completely reconfiguring the apartment to provide harmony, functionality and an improved, yet subtle, division between the occupier’s private quarters and principal entertaining space. Furthermore, Rigby & Rigby were also required to make-use of the buildings superb frontage; through the careful placement of internal walls Rigby & Rigby were able to maximise the levels of natural light within the Dining, Living & Kitchen Area, as well as create spectacular framed views along Charles Street and beyond. Finally, as with all of Rigby & Rigby’s private development projects, we were also required to fully furnish and dress the apartment for potential re-sale. Working closely with our in-house interior design team Rigby & Rigby applied the next level of architectural splendour through the introduction of exquisite furniture pieces which not only reflect the quality and detailing of the apartment but also remain entirely sympathetic with the new interior style and historical fabric of 12 Charles Street.

The success of the design is a reflection of its design evolution and determination of the design team to protect and maintain its key parts – such as the magnificent entertainment space, 18m uninterrupted views through the apartment and a spatial strategy which allows the occupant to journey through the property rather than stumble. Another factor which Rigby & Rigby owe to the success of the design is the approach to circulation as useable space, rather than a tool of connectivity, which is of critical importance where each square foot is of a considerable value. Throughout the apartment Rigby & Rigby have looked to introduce natural breaks and divisions within the wall and ceiling plain which not only create areas of storage and interest but also provoke a degree of movement and spatial rhythm. In addition, the grand Entrance Hall, with its realigned and enlarged [grand] doorset, has been designed in such a manner so as to become the ‘heart of the home’ and also, should it be desired, form an additional informal seating space within the 18m vista.
