Harry Miesbauer Yacht Design have been shortlisted for Sailing Yacht Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2020.
The yacht was developed for a very experienced owner and regatta sailor who had various offshore yachts before and who has taken part in numerous offshore and grand prix regattas before.
The owner and his boat captain pinned out the following key points at the beginning of the project for Harry Miesbauer Yacht Design; firstly it had to aesthetically pleasing, it had to be fast with good all-round performance, it had to be lightweight and easy to handle with a small crew, the interior was to be light and functional but with added comforts for cruising with the family, and adaptable so that heavy items used in cruising mode, such as the washing machine, can be taken out easily when racing.
For the exterior design, Harry Miesbauer Yacht Design had to ensure the yacht featured elegant lines, a timeless appears, good ergonomics and optimised storage in the cockpit. It was also to feature an aggressive / long bowsprit with integrated anchor, not just for performance reasons. For the owner and the family, Harry Miesbauer ensured that there was a big sun bathing area on the coach roof, and particular attention to detail on elements such as the exhaust pipes, steering console.
The entire interior was also designed by Harry Miesbauer Yacht Design. It is a very light, airy interior, where practical issues, like big storage areas, or clear passageways for easy moving and use also, in heavy sea state, were first on the priority list. A big emphasis has been taken to ensure a safe weight in the interior. Therefore, the interior was fully realised with cored panels, in certain areas, like the heads or e.g. the bunks are made from carbon sandwich panels, and the ceilings and side panels are all in honeycomb sandwich.
For Harry Miesbauer Yacht Design, the design works so well because a lot of effort has been put into detailing, especially on the coachroof & cockpit design, ergonomics either for cruising or racing mode. The designer also had a big input from professional sailors like OneSails CEO, Dede De Luca, to optimise the deck layout, in order to ensure that the boat can be handled also with a small crew on long distance passages.
