Congratulations to Sheree Stuart Design shortlisted for Kitchen over £50,000 Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Sheree Stuart Design have been shortlisted for Kitchen Over £50,000 Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

Sheree Stuart Design were asked to design a custom kitchen in Toronto’s Kingsway neighbourhood with a calm and classic feel. The beautiful classic kitchen was designed for a busy client who loves to cook and spend time with her family and friends. The designers wanted to design a space that really captured the client’s soul.  Her beautiful china, antique silver tea kettles and crystal were part of the inspiration.  Sheree Stuart and her design team expanded this kitchen by adding to the back of the house and added tall French doors leading to the exquisite garden and pool. The designers created a visually separate space for their client’s treasured china, along with a wet bar.  So, although this kitchen is large, it visually fits with the rest of the home. As the client loves to cook and entertain high-end appliances were added, including a Subzero refrigerator, Wolf range and steam oven.

The client was very specific about her cooking needs, right down to what kind and how many dishes she likes to keep close at hand, and what kind of storage containers she uses – so every aspect of this kitchen was designed around her. The overall theme for this kitchen is calm and classic reflecting the client’s dreams and lifestyle needs.  This beautiful, bright and highly functional kitchen is completely open to the family room and eating area. The exhilarating view of the backyard is a prominent feature of the space and provides easy access to the gracious patio and pool.

The client stated that ‘this kitchen here dreams a reality’ that is a true testament to the design produced by Sheree Stuart Design. It is said that there are always challenges when translating clients’ verbal wishes into a visual design, but equally it is the most rewarding aspect of the job. The client cooks a great deal for her family and enjoys entertaining, so the finest appliances and utilities were installed to make cooking an enjoyable experience. This kitchen places a great deal of emphasis on day-to-day living – functionality is key. The classic details are refined yet clean and nothing overly elaborate. This creates a highly functional environment that is calm on the eyes and feeds the soul. This kitchen design also solved some previous problems with the flow of the home and connections with the outside environment.

Previously the kitchen was inset back by 8 feet and there was only one window facing the back garden. The lighting and visibility into the garden was poor and the flow into the family room was less than ideal. The exhilarating view of the backyard is now a prominent feature of the space with the addition of large French doors, which allows the family to easily access the gracious patio and pool. Sheree Stuart also wanted to design a visually large kitchen that would suite the proportions of the house. The designers worked with millwork teams to complete the cabinetry. There are many intricate details in the interior cabinets making them highly functional for the client. This kitchen has every modern innovation imaginable – draw kicks, storage and organization systems. A metal fabricator was also used for the custom stainless steel range hood.
