The Johnson Studio have been successfully shortlisted for the Restaurant within a Hotel Award (Global) at the 2015 International Hotel & Property Awards. Renovated ultra-lounge, the 1967 iconic Polaris at Hyatt Regency, Atlanta mixes bold design with retro touches…complete transformation ushers it into the 21 century.
Patrons may select from a variety of custom seating options for that perfect perch to sample seasonal small plates and hand crafted cocktails. All zones are on the rotating platform and one may even opt for a seat at the bar to watch the 360 backdrop of the Atlanta skyline and beyond slowly scroll by. The 45 minute turn provides ample time for conversation intermixed with glances among original John Portman architectural books to mad men era objects on display.
Four distinct lounge areas are laid out to mimic zones in a residence. The dining zone features a custom walnut communal table with a 60’s inspired standing lamp that comes up through the table and softly lights the top.
The library and the living room zones provide soft lounge seating with contrasting masculine and feminine color palettes and textures. Custom fabricated sectional sofas and screens hug Polaris’ curves and create a semi private experience for guests.
The beautiful and mechanically impressive bar allows patrons to peer out the unobstructed windows to the view beyond. Sparkling glass towers on each end house glassware and liquor while a highly polished petrified wood bar top adds glamour and intrigue. The 360 degree skyline views are not the only eye catching feature. A fully open kitchen bustling with chefs adds life to the lounge and an over scaled brass sculptural feature-wall enhances the experience with art.
