Staffan Tollgard Design Group have been shortlisted for the Retail Space award in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2014.
Situated in Chelsea, their stunning new Design Store opened in October, and represents the very best of interior and product design. Even the suppliers used on project from the barn-wood cladding to the architectural lighting are all available to purchase or to be specified. The ambitious fit-out transformed the flagship commercial space on the Grosvenor Waterside docks into a stunning studio and retail space over 9 short weeks.
The Store was designed to be a window into the world of the residential interiors that the Group is internationally recognised for, as well as a creative and inspiring workspace. Function was at the heart of the design brief, and the creation of a mezzanine space to house the Group’s 14-strong design team added space for a working kitchen and dining area, two bathrooms, a cinema and a bedroom. Literally a home-away-from-home for the family-run practice, the Store has been mistaken for a very high-end apartment on more than one occasion by passersby keen to acquire it.
“The design is the culmination of our Group’s collective knowledge, experience and passion. We use the Scandinavian concept of the ‘Red Thread’ to describe the creative DNA that guides and differentiates every design project.” explains Staffan Tollgard, creative director and founder of Staffan Tollgard Design Group.
The ‘red thread’ or DNA of the interior was the Group’s own unique blend of bold, contemporary design: the architectural layering of textures, functional sculpture in the form of furniture and lighting, strong injections of colour.
