design et al are delighted to announce that Studio Delmar have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Asia Pacific Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
The exterior of Art House integrates seamlessly with the traditional facades of it’s prestigious Sydney Street. By having Studio Delmar work solely on the heritage building’s interior, this disguise is only removed once walking into the home, and the lively flair and lifestyle of the owners is portrayed. This is a visual and textural journey throughout, mixing modern and traditional aspects of colour, murals, textures and materials. The art, furniture and lighting all play a major role in creating the playful yet sophisticated family home while allowing the traditional features of the architecture to shine.
Studio Delmar’s clients were looking for an expressive city home whilst still wanting a calming space to complement their current life as a young family. Their love of European architecture and detailing permitted Studio Delmar to feature the homes original grandeur which was aligned with the joinery but also reflects their personality through modern furniture, finishes and styling details. A request of contemporary art throughout allowed Studio Delmar to create a gallery feel where sculptural lighting, furniture and art merge together creating a visual feast and journey throughout the home. Custom designed furniture with details from the past surprise with the addition of neon, stone or modern hardware. This unlikely combination adds to the meticulously curated rooms and expresses attention to detail throughout.
The client’s trust in Studio Delmar was key to the entire project coming together. This trust allowed the designers to create different stories in each room of the home, mimicking the different ways the clients like to live and entertain. Studio Delmar were able to create a magic of sorts through theatrical art, wallpaper and furniture which intertwines the history of the house and the young family living within it. These layers of textures allow each room to stand alone and as a whole.
