Studio Sidika

Congratulations to Studio Sidika who have been shortlisted for Bedroom Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that Studio Sidika have been shortlisted for Bedroom Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

This project involved the interior design and redecoration of a master bedroom, the staircase and the detailed joinery design throughout. The clients, a couple with two dogs, wanted the brief to incorporate their pets without compromising on the design. The priority was to change the flooring from carpet to engineered wood flooring, however that meant that the last step on the stairs was too high and unsafe. Studio Sidika therefore had to re-design the stairs altogether. The stairs were then painted in Railings by Farrow & Ball and the designers added a runner so that the dogs would not slip and selected a material that is easily cleaned.

Studio Sidika specified a rustic wooden floor for the master bedroom to add warmth and character. The rustic of the floor is in contrast with the contemporary shaker panelling of the wardrobes and the elegant Fornasetti wallpaper. The designers included a secret door to the wardrobes to ensure that they had one long run of joinery, giving regularity to the room that is in reality of a trapezoidal shape. The secret door leads to the ensuite bathroom.

The designers paid special attention to the window treatment as the view of the Hampstead Heath is spectacular and deserved to be framed. Studio Sidika chose a ceiling mounted track and a wave curtain header for a more contemporary look and to maximise ceiling height. The key aspect of this project is the contemporary shaker panelling on the wardrobes that have been made to create a 90-degree corner and which also frame a skylight that brings joyful light to the room.

The design works very well because it hides the awkward shape of the room, it adds lots of storage for clothes in the wardrobes, the shoe unit and also the bed lifts up to store linen and blankets. Studio Sidika also love the Fornasetti wallpaper that brings depth and perspective to the room and a bucolic feel that ties in beautifully with the views over Hampstead Heath.
