Tenhurst have been shortlisted for a Residential £10 Million Plus Award

design et al are pleased to announce that Tenhurst have been shortlisted in the International Design and Architecture Awards 2016, in the Residential £10 Million Plus category, with their development, The Kings Library.

A sensitive revival of a listed former school in the heart of Chelsea, this project preserves key features and characteristics whilst installing new build solutions.

The King’s Library is an innovative conversion and extension of a grade 2 listed school. It will eventually be turned into 18 high quality residential apartments that celebrate the spirit and character of the original fabric of the building.

A priority has been maintaining the integrity and elegance of its key features and important internal spaces, together with its unique overall form and setting.

The design takes the lead from the original architecture; the essential character of this nostalgic building has been preserved and enhanced, whilst the impressive scale of its interior space offers a selection of bespoke residences with generous ceiling heights and rooms bathed in natural light, making the most of the original features within. Wide corridors, sweeping staircases and one-off entertainment spaces complet the majestic emsemble.

The cubic area and grand entrance of Apartment 17 is outstanding, with average ceiling heights of 4 meters. The apartment embraces its past showing off archways and its collection of windows showing off every space to the full. The charm of this nostalgic building has been preserved and enhanced.
By maintaining the integrity and elegance of the school its key features and unique overall form have ensured a well thought out and unique development in this quiet corner of Chelsea.
