design et al are delighted to announce that Warret & Jullion has been shortlisted for City Space (Apartment/Penthouse) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.
Warret & Jullion were asked to re-organise and completely refurbish a 2 bedroom flat into a flexible 1 bedroom open plan apartment. The property was an ex-industrial paper factory that has been converted to residential in the late 1990s. The style is a mix of ex-industrial loft, and clear Scandinavian and French vibes and luxurious touches. Access to light, together with optimising the space usage were the most important issues to consider. The view from the flat was attractive and had to be preserved from all main parts of the flat. Together with the client Warret & Jullion came to an elegant solution involving an atelier-type internal glass partition, a complete walk-in dressing room and made to measure joinery.
The property is a 3rd floor, 2 bedroom flat. The client wished to have it redesigned and renovated to modern standards of comfort. The flat is held by the client as his long-term home and he wanted to adapt it to his lifestyle. The flat had two bedrooms but the client wanted to convert it into a one bedroom flat with a flexible study/second bedroom cleverly placed in currently unused space. The client was keen to remove as much as possible of the internal walls to have one open area including the kitchen and living area. The client was inclined to have the sole bedroom where the right-hand side bedroom currently is (North East) only bigger in size.
The specific requirements given to Warret & Jullion were new wooden floors throughout except in the bathroom, no separate dining room, marble splashback and minimalist look in the kitchen and a general New York Loft style: ex industrial, exposed concrete, corresponding period features and artefacts. The mix of raw concrete, clean lines and luxurious items gives soul to the place. It is comfortable and lively. The views over the local canal can be appreciated not only from the living room but also from the bedroom.
