design et al are delighted to announce that Nathan Anthony Furniture have won the Chair Award in The Product Design Categories within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017
Designed by Tina Nicole, the Dali chair features an innovative reverse-tufting technique. Sewn in a contrasting leather across the chair’s back and side panels, reverse tufting creates a three-dimensional effect similar to a cascade of floating petals. The leather forming each petal is sewn across a stylish, diamond-shaped grid that flows around the chair’s curved chassis, creating an intricate, hand-drawn effect. Gilded modern brass steel tube legs add an extra dash of sophistication to the chair, which pays homage to the Art Deco and Mid-century Modern design periods. “Dali delights the eye with its vibrant colour contrasts, edgy urban spirit and playful geometric shapes,” says Nicole. “The reverse tufting treatment makes the chair really pop visually, and it also gives the frame an unexpected tactile dimension.” Nicole said that the Dali model was inspired by the shape of the famous painter’s moustache. All frames at Nathan Anthony are passionately and proudly built on-site in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Co-founders of Nathan Anthony Furniture, Tina Nicole and Khai Mai share their unique experiences of travelling the world and their exposure to music, fashion and culture to create innovative designs which “can be as original as you are”. Together since high school, Nicole and Mai continue to work side by side bringing new concepts to life with free rein on fabrics, colours and shapes, a passion they have both had for many years. Established in 2004 in California, the Award Winning multidisciplinary company, named after Nicole’s and Mai’s son, not only gather their inspiration from the ever-changing world around them, but also draw upon inspiration from fellow creatives such as Patricia Urquiola, Hella Jongerius and Coco Chanel.
