Conrad Hilton’s first high rise hotel, completed in 1930, is now home to El Paso’s most authentic experience, The Plaza Pioneer Park Hotel. Business tycoon and Owner Paul Foster of Franklin Mountain Management purchased the abandoned hotel with the goal to restore the original beauty. Now 130-rooms and Suites the hotel features the fully restored historic ballroom, historic atrium, and historic meeting rooms with a modern border vibe.
Sitting empty for over twenty years, the goal of the project was to restore the historic hotel and bring it into modernity. The renovated hotel features modern day F&B amenities, luxurious guestrooms & suites, and public spaces that cater to El Paso’s focus on social gathering, food-centric culture, and the border’s craft tequila scene. Creating an authentic experience crafted around Hilton’s original vision and inviting locals back into the place that was once a pivotal part of community activities were the design team’s inspiration.
Pueblo Deco influence carries through the hotel reception, lobby and library spaces creating luxury balanced with West Texas artistry. Honouring Hilton’s original vision; a collection of historic resources a palette of rich walnut wood, mohair fabrics, warm brass metals and hand-tooled leather. Designed to be an extension of El Pasoans’ living rooms, the lobby & library spaces have an artisanal quality with a stately fireplace framed by rich tan leather and mohair seating. Sleek marble tables and teardrop chandeliers hang from floating Mahogany clouds. Larger than life curio cabinets line the space and feature an expansive collection of historic books, antique paintings from Mexico and an eclectic collection of relics creating a homely place for locals.
Cultural relations in El Paso are of utmost importance to the survival of the community. El Paso sits on the border of Mexico and many people have family on both sides of the border and many travel across the border for work. The design honours the history of this iconic building while partnering with artisans from both Mexican and El Pasoan communities.
