MSMR Architects have reached the shortlist of the International Design and Architecture Awards with their Central London Mews House. The house which features on the £5 Million plus shortlist was originally an arrangement of staff quarters over stabling.   The brief was to maximise the internal volume and light creating a state-of-the-art, luxury home that incorporates internal and external spaces and increase the available floor area from 2,500 to over 5,000 square feet by the addition of a newly excavated lower ground floor and a second floor within a new mansard roof.

From an interior design perspective, the rare double width configuration of this particular mews property gave MSMR an exciting opportunity to develop an unusually spacious sequence of rooms behind the traditional mews façade. A key conceptual feature is a double-height void located to one side of the front door. As you enter the property an immediate and surprising sense of spatial drama unfolds.
