Trombe Ltd have been short listed in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2013 in the ‘Glasshouse over £150,000’ category. Trombe provided glazed extensions to this project, Hookwood House.
The client’s development opportunities were limited by planning restrictions, which demanded the reconstruction of an existing timber clad house in a vernacular style. However, the client wanted more living accommodation and an exciting, contemporary design with as much light as possible.
The brief included two glazed structures; firstly, a very minimal glazed rear extension structure to gain floor space without visual bulk and secondly, structural glazing to clad a projecting, two-storey, oak-framed bay at the front of the house, which contains a curved staircase. A modern style was specified to contrast with the traditional construction and design of the main part of the house and add design value.
Overall It is a very well considered combination of traditional and modern design that satisfies the objectives of both the clients and the planning authority.
