Technicon Design (France) have been shortlisted in the International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2014 with their IXION Private Jet concept entering the Private Aviation Exterior Design Concept Category.
Designer: Gareth Davies
A design concept which seeks to push the envelope in accepted thinking on what a private jet exterior could look like in the immediate future.
“The brief of the project is simple, to challenge current thinking, and propose something a little different but not just a fantasy. It has to be credible and relevant, yet provoke discussion”, said Gareth Davies, Design Director at Technicon’s French Studio near Paris.
“We decided on the controversial yet interesting idea of removing the windows from the cabin and using existing or very near future flexible screen technology to display the exterior environment on the inside surfaces of the cabin via external cameras. Consequently this presents new possibilities fo the exterior design, being free of windows allows for a svelte and elegant aesthetic treatment”.
The International Yacht and Aviation Awards are important as they provide an arena for design to showcase its importance in these fields. This is crucial for what can sometimes be a “hidden” endeavour.
