design et al are delighted to announce the successful shortlist of Chalk Architecture for the Retail Space Award in The ID&A Awards 2015.
Small Batch Coffee Company is an independent wholesale coffee roaster specialising in a range of single origin gourmet coffees. They supply many coffee houses in London and across the southeast of England. Having retail outlets was not on the immediate business plan however, following with the success of their first store in Hove which was completed by Chalk Architecture in 2010, a further 4 sites have been added to their portfolio, although each store has a different look.
The design story is consistent across them all: a constant strand within the narrative is the use of salvaged timber, which is re-crafted into wall panelling and over laid with a bespoke piece of illustration. Steel and oak is used elsewhere in the furniture and counters in simple and bold architectonic forms.
