design et al are delighted to announce that Oliver James Garden rooms have been shortlisted for a Glasshouse over £50,000 award
The client was looking to add a modern yet complementary, functional yet beautiful space to their characterful 400 year old former coaching inn. Oliver James Garden Rooms were instructed to design, manage and build a variant of their Rousham style Garden Room, tailored specifically to meet their needs and those of the property. By incorporating a series of steel frames, hidden within the structure, vaulted and flat ceilings flow seamlessly into each other.
They removed the ground floor of the original kitchen/dining room and the suspended box of the original first floor is now supported by a steel frame and internal steel posts that have in themselves become a design feature in the new kitchen.
Despite the size of the gable end window above the jumbo sliding doors, the hidden internal structure enabled them to use just one pane of glass to keep the lines as clutter-free as possible. The new kitchen and Garden Room now lead internally into a former stable, now converted into the master bedroom, whilst externally the Garden Room flows down into the garden below.
