design et al are delighted to announce that deLighting Art Limited have been shortlisted for a Lighting- Pendant/Chandelier Award in The International Product Design Awards 2016
Lait Lumière takes its inspiration from the vintage delivery truck that sits outside this restaurant, which sets up a fun dialogue with the intentionally formal interior and takes the customer on a nostalgic journey. The resulting lighting fixture uses a metal basket design, reminiscent of old metal milk crates, with glass milk bottles acting as diffusers. The overall structure is rigid but there is an underlying, unconventional playfulness to surprise and delight the observant diner.
This feature lighting was created to give a light-hearted, playful twist to a French restaurant with a difference. The challenge of the design brief lay in balancing the contrast between the conventional and the unexpected, so that the overall tone of the interior design would remain traditional. Another challenge was that aspects of the lighting were dictated by the landlord and had to be in keeping with surrounding premises.
A unique aspect of the design is its adaptability in different settings. It can be configured to linear, rectangular or round depending on the style required or the furniture setting. The height is also customizable based on ceiling height and the desired lighting effect.
As well as offering flexibility of shape and height, Lait Lumière provides two different style options to suit a variety of interior moods. The first, with clear glass and traditional tubular metal basket design, is a casual interpretation of the milk crate theme. The second, with frosted glass diffuser and flat metal structure, conveys a more abstracted variation and is successfully used here in a fine dining setting.
